"The righteous shall live by faith", faith as a way of life

Habakkuk 2:4 ("the righteous shall live by his faith") is one of the most load-bearing lines in Scripture, Paul quotes it in Romans 1:17 and Galatians 3:11, and Hebrews in Hebrews 10:38. The point in Habakkuk's context: while waiting for God to act amid injustice, the righteous person keeps living by trust. Faith is not just how one is saved; it is how one daily lives. Likewise 2 Corinthians 5:7, "we walk by faith, not by sight."

Galatians 2:20 makes it personal: … Ordinary life ("in the flesh," i.e., bodily, everyday existence) is lived by faith.

Faith that works, the James principle

James 2:14-26 is the NT's most direct teaching that faith touches daily conduct:
