A reign you enter

Because the kingdom is God's rule, you don't build it, you enter and receive it. Jesus said one must be 'born again' to see it (John 3:3; John 3:5) and must receive it 'like a child' (Mark 10:15). It is entered by repentance and faith (Mark 1:15) and is to be sought above everything else: 'seek first the kingdom of God' (Matthew 6:33). It is 'not of this world' (John 18:36), it does not advance by force or politics, and yet it is powerfully real, overturning sin, sickness, and evil wherever the King acts.

Already and not yet

The New Testament holds two truths in tension. The kingdom has genuinely come, in Jesus' words, works, and especially His death and resurrection, the reign of God has begun (Matthew 12:28). Yet it is not yet consummated: evil continues, and believers still pray 'your kingdom come' (Matthew 6:10), awaiting the day when God's rule is complete and unmistakable, the everlasting kingdom that 'shall never be destroyed' (Daniel 2:44; Revelation 11:15). Many of Jesus' parables describe this in-between kingdom: it starts tiny and grows vast, works quietly, is worth everything (Matthew 13:31–Matthew 13:33; Matthew 13:44).
